There’s four weeks of plastic and paper waiting for collection tonight, so the bin is brim full. But most of it is the packaging and empty bottles (equal numbers of Coke and plain water) from the guys’ evening meals. Ahmed has occasionally eaten with us. Saif only once. They order pizza and Chinese or Indian almost every night, instead of joining us. No problem. We want them to be happy.
Finally got a picture of this little spring, below the bridge into the council flats, that I only noticed a week ago. My other shots had been from the other bank. Paul came out and talked today when he saw me starting to take a picture. Because he lives in the units, I took the opportunity to see what the light was like on that side. Exactly right! The are two outlets here. Then, I’ve seen another one upstream 100 yards at the back of St Aidan’s. I think the creek is lined with them. Paul said the stream is called Wai-iti (small water).
I took 40 or perhaps even 50 shots to get this, because the wind had it swinging and twirling so much the camera struggled to focus on it. The leaf in this photo is not as close to the camera as another one, but that was a few millimetres too low against a shadowed background and consequently a little difficult to quickly recognise.
Stillness, as a new life begins in New Zealand.A flourish, to begin a meal with Liaquat’s gracious family to mark their 2006 arrival. (Omid arrived 18 months or so earlier.)
Started with an unexpected rainbow soaring across the effects of a fierce southerly that had been wrapped around the mountain all night. And ended with a hug from Aunty.Well, actually, ended with Aurora needing “something”. After a lot of distress and tears, that turned out to be paracetamol which put her to sleep immediately.
First, the Rumpus Room.Followed by a snack on the walk way. Then to home for lunch, via an exhibition of 50 National Geographic photographs at Puki Ariti.
Good morning!Painting at the end of the day while Matt and Emily stain part of the deckAnd late in the evening Matt and Neelam learn their offer on a house in Oakura was unsuccessful.
First, we’re off to town…… for macaroon.Back home, we’re mastering gravity with the left hand. And helping mum and dad fill John’s trailer with flax and cabbage tree leaves.
Even if it means going this deep. Just outside my office window, in the hunt for grubs, this Black Bird has dug a hole that looks as big as her grave would be.
